Note: A very cool little anchor and a symbolic bird charm is included on a this handsome necklace's length adjuster chain, and each of those charms can be taken on and off (of extender chain); because both charms are connected with a sterling silver clasp, (see right middle pic- the 4-square). Wear necklace with one, none, or both of the (double sided 3-D!) charms (of a bird and of an anchor.) ---Again each of the charms are detachable from extender chain because they each are cleverly connected with a small lobster clasp.
** Because extender chain is detachable from necklace, it could even double as a key chain (with the symbolic & handsome charms attached to it) - (when not in use on necklace.)

--The symbolic image of a compass has been around for a very long time. Sailors got tattoos with the compass rose for luck in finding their way home. A compass: also a symbol used to represent the idea of staying focused and moving in the right direction.
In the maritime world a bird is often symbolic of a "safe return home". Swallow birds in particularly are known to travel far distances out to sea during migration and would rest on boats close to shore which gave early mariners the first sign that land was indeed close by.
From what I've heard and researched, swallow / bird (symbolism) is sometimes used to commemorate loyalty or fidelity - swallows choose a mate for life and will only nest with that bird and no other. Often bird tattoos have connections to rock and roll, or music in general. (You’ll see birds often in my designs here on etsy).
Lastly, an anchor holds a ship still, keeping the sailors safe from winds and currents. Because of this, anchors are traditionally associated with safe voyages, stability, and protection from adversity.
NECKLACE DESCRIPTION:
The locket is a 1& ¼ inch (31mm) silver locket, and a total of 9mm (3/8 inch) thick. Unless requested otherwise, your chain will be a BALL CHAIN made of oxidized (darkened) professionally plated sterling silver over natural brass . *If a link chain is desired <as seen on the ladies version>, (instead of the ball chain) , simply make your preferences known in the "note to seller" box, at check out. & it will be done. The chain will be 24 inches (*unless you request a specific longer or shorter length), a lobster claw clasp, with a complementary DETACHABLE 4 inch extender chain (which may be used with other necklaces, or as a key chain). which makes this necklace adjustable from a manly 24 to 28 inches (and every size in between), depending on the wearer’s preference that day.
IDEAS FOR INTERIOR OF LOCKET:
**A reusable easy "circle template" is included and shipped to you, with this locket, for perfect fitting of a graphic to place inside this locket.
Inside of locket has 2 frames/sides in which you can secure photos. (Perhaps of your sweetheart, a child, a favorite vacation spot...) (I generally use a small dab of glue behind pictures.) Locket interior has two sides- so get creative- place inside a sentimental picture, and/or a favorite famous quote or an original sentiment handwritten (or printed) on paper and folded then placed inside the locket, or maybe a little lock of hair, perhaps a cut out copy of a selected word and its definition from an old dictionary.
